Historical landmark
194 km away
Chichén Itzá is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico. This Mayan city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988 and a modern Wonder of the World since 2007. Chichén Itzá means “mouth of the well of the itzaes” in allusion to the sacred cenote located north of the Kukulkán pyramid that reaches 60 meters in diameter and 15 meters deep. The pyramid of Kukulkán is the main temple of this Mayan city. This pyramid contains all the knowledge of the Mayas about mathematics, astrology, and geometry, and its symmetry contains the Mayan calendar.

Tulum

Historical landmark
80 km away
Tulum is the site of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city that served as a major port for Coba, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. The ruins are situated on 12-meter-tall cliffs along the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea. Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya and achieved its greatest prominence between the 13th and 15th centuries. Maya continued to occupy Tulum for about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico, but the city was abandoned by the end of the 16th century. Tulum is one of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, and today a popular site for tourists.

Cenotes

Recreation
Beautiful but full of mystery and magic at the same time, the cenotes are the most beautiful jewels of the Yucatan Peninsula. Sheltered by the jungle, swimming in a cenote is an adventure you cannot miss during your trip. The cenotes in the present day are more important than ever as silent witnesses of the past and invaluable information about the planet's development, our species, and even unknown data about the Mayan culture. They are water sources due to the absence of surface rivers in the Yucatan Peninsula. They are also magnificent sites for nature exploration and archaeological expeditions, finding remains of ancient Mayans and older settlers.
